During these introductory online intensives, participants will train in the Culture of Creative Freedom, at the root of Demidov Organic Acting Technique. The Intensives will feature Demidov’s signature etudes (improvisational exercises with given text).
Demidov etudes spontaneously evoke circumstances, character and relationships. They stimulate actors’ unpredictability and emotional richness, and instigate free flow of subconscious creativity.
Intensive participants will study techniques intrinsic to the Art of Living Onstage:
- Intimate process of character inception
- The art of inexact (or creative) repetition
- Demidov’s unique method of evoking circumstances in the space
- Techniques of Creative Passivity (surrender) and Perception (truly seeing and hearing)
Things to note:
- Space is limited to 12 participants
- Training conducted in English, online via Zoom
- For actors, directors and acting teachers
About the workshop
The Organic Technique is rooted in the culture of creative freedom. As founding Director of the Moscow Art Theatre’s School, and one of the three original teachers of the Stanislavsky System, Demidov uncovered the professional secrets of the great tragedians, such as Eleonora Duse, Tommaso Salvini and Ira Aldridge.
The Demidov Organic Acting Technique puts actors in touch with their own creative individuality by teaching them to recognise and follow their artistic instincts. Improvisational text etudes, at the heart of the technique, stimulate spontaneity and emotional richness in actors, instigating the free flow of subconscious creativity.
The Demidov technique is aimed at developing independent actor-creators, capable of generating their own work, and serving as an equal collaborator to the director. The workshop will introduce the participants to the basic principles of the Demidov technique and to some of its chief cultures, such as freedom, emptiness and creative calm.
Fundamentals of the Demidov Technique
- The essence of the Demidov technique is rooted in the culture of creative freedom. The Demidov School teaches actors how to listen to their own creative individuality, while following artistic instincts
- The Demidov internal technique cleanses the channels of actors’ perception, stimulating an unhindered flow of subconscious creativity
- The Demidov “etudes” foster an actors’ spontaneity and emotional responsiveness. They develop a performer’s readiness to surrender to the given circumstances and to fully immerse in character
- The Demidov School cultivates a habit of independent creativity, both in acting homework, and in rehearsals. It trains the actor who can become an equal collaborator to the director, and co-creator of the performance
